Adventure vacations in Wyoming

Reach Out to Horses with Anna Twinney

Overview

In Anna Twinney’s “Reach Out To Horses” horse communication course you will learn the language of horses and how to speak with them. Through demonstrations, lectures and exercises you will experience how all contact with your horse, your intentions, your body language, your energy form a communication system. You need to understand the horse’s gestures before you can understand their healing responses later in the week. By the end of the clinic you will better be able to gain your horse’s trust and will build a better partnership for competition, pleasure riding, or companionship.

Guests stay in comfortable log cabins on either side of the river which are situated for privacy and to afford magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.

Meals are taken in the main lodge and particular attention is paid to the cuisine and wines served.

  • Overview:
There are over 120 riding horses on the ranch, consisting mainly of Arabians and Quarter Horse crosses (14-16hh). The Arabian horses are raised and trained exclusively for the use of the guests, who often like to visit the mares and foals. Western and endurance saddles are used because we have found them to be the most suitable for this mountainous terrain.
  • Equipment Required:
Helmets are required when riding, there are some available to borrow.
  • Horse Breeds:
    Quarter horses, Arabians, draft crosses
  • Trip Pace:
    To suit riders
  • Tack:
    Western and Endurance
  • Weight limit:
The ranch has a limited number of horses for riders over 180 lbs.
  • Hours of Instruction:
    6
  • Types of Instruction:
    Clinics and Lessons, Horsemanship Skillbuilding

There are no separate activities planned for those who don't participate in the clinic, but they can take advantage of this unique location to fly fish, hike and visit with the ranch animals. With a rental car the town of Dubois is about 40 minutes away.

Hadley teaches four flowing yoga classes a week in the ranch’s yoga yurt, Monday and Wednesday afternoons, Friday mornings, and Saturday afternoons. The classes are designed to stretch the muscles that typically become sore during riding. They are friendly for people without much (or any!) yoga experience, but they also offer something to the more experienced yoga practitioner.

At the ranch. We can provide details for services for transportation from the Jackson Hole airport or the Riverton airport.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Sunday: Arrive at the Bitterroot ranch in the afternoon and settle into your cozy log cabin. Meet your fellow clinic participants at cocktails and dinner.

Day 2

Monday: You will work with your horse at liberty, uncovering his/her personality, character traits and learning style. Discovering the language of horses will create a foundation for both you and your horse that can be taken anywhere.

Day 3

Tuesday : Examine some of the most important elements in creating a trust-based relationship with your horse in hand. Set yourself up for success as you learn relaxation exercises, boundaries and appropriate leadership skills to keep you safe during a Reiki – energy healing for horses – session. These same exercises create a space for the horses to heal and overcome behavioral problems.

Day 4

Wednesday and Thursday : Over 2 days you will discover exactly what Reiki is, how to use it to heal yourself and others through hands on and distance healing and become a certified practitioner. The applications of this holistic, non-invasive style of energy healing are considerable.

Day 6

Friday: You will learn how to apply your new found art to your horses and other animal companions. Animals are great recipients for energy work because they have no preconceived notions or skepticism that often get in the way of human receptivity. Horses in particular create a space for you to learn the language of energy and their responses and acceptance is reflected instantly.

Day 7

Saturday: Picnic trail ride into the National Forest or relax on the grounds and practice your new Reiki skills.

Day 8

Sunday: Departure after breakfast.
